Sugudu, also known as Segudu, is called Huobusi, Huba, and Amber in Chinese. The Naxi people play stringed instruments. The Naxi language Sugudu means one must learn. Popular in Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province.
The original body is 90 cm long and made of red sandalwood; now the body is 106 cm to 116 cm in length, and the resonance box is 18 cm to 20 cm wide, and is made of walnut or red toon.
The headstock is unadorned, the neck is narrow on the top and wide on the bottom, the fretboard on the surface is fretless, and the lower part is integrated with the sound box. The resonance box is in the shape of a half gourd. The middle and upper parts are covered with thin wood as a panel, and there are small sound holes on it.
Four pegs are installed on the left side of the headstock, and the string grooves are set on the back of the headstock. The four silk strings pass through the string holes on the mountain pass, and are tied to the binding strings at the lower part of the resonance box through the bridge placed on the leather surface. There is a small ring on the back of the piano, and a cloth strap is attached for the back.
