The shape of the bell was recorded in local chronicles in the early 20th century. According to the records of "Hulan House Zhi", its shape is "made of wood, two and a half feet long, with several copper bells on the top of the pole". The "Yilan County Chronicle" records that the bell is "made of two thin oak sticks, three feet long, and each stick is tied with five copper bells".
It can be seen that the shaking bell is composed of two parts:
the wooden pole and
the bell.
Wooden pole
The wooden pole of the Fuchahara bell is 96cm long, thick at the top and thin at the bottom, with a diameter of 1.5-2cm. Wu Zahara's wooden pole is relatively short, with a length of 66.5cm and a diameter of 4cm. The bell in the "God Sacrifice Ceremony in Manchuria" is about 115.2 cm in length (3 feet 6 inches in a clear ruler) and 2.24 cm in diameter (7 points in a clear ruler). It can be seen that the wooden poles used by Manchu shamans were not customized. Its length varies from place to place, and it is commonly made of birch, pine, and oak.
Bells
Cast copper. Spherical, hollow, containing several projectiles. The bells of the Fuchahara bells vary in size. The large bell is 3.8cm in diameter and 4cm in thickness; the small bell is 3.2cm in diameter and 2.5cm in thickness. The bells are divided into two groups with a leather rope tied to the upper end of the birch pole. One group consists of 3 bells (1 large and 2 small); the other group consists of 4 bells (1 large and 3 small). The body of the bell is cast with a taotie pattern. The bells of Wu Zahara's shaking bells are different in size, with a diameter of 4cm and a thickness of 3cm. The bell is divided into two groups with iron rings inlaid on the upper end of the pole, each group is composed of two bells, and a small iron ring is added; It collided with the copper bell.
