The double-pipe mabu is a reed instrument unique to the Yi people. The "horse" in Yi language is a bamboo pipe, and the "cloth" is a reed pipe, which means a musical instrument played by inserting a reed pipe on a bamboo pipe. Spread in my country's Sichuan Liangshan and Yunnan Yi areas.
The double-pipe horse cloth is composed of a whistle, a bamboo pipe body and a horn pipe mouth. The upper end of the tube is equipped with a bamboo reed whistle, and the lower end of the tube is covered with a horn made of horn. The reed whistle is made of a thin bamboo tube with a length of about 4 cm and a diameter of 0.3 to 0.4 cm. One end is left with a knot and one end is open. A 2.5 cm long reed tongue is carved on the wall of the tube, and the tip of the tongue is close to the bamboo. The open end is inserted into the upper opening of the tube body.
The Mabu reformed by the Central National Song and Dance Troupe is made of copper, and the reed whistle has been changed from a single reed to a double reed, with 16 sound holes (7 finger holes, 9 key holes). The vocal range is (f ~ f2). It is also a very expressive color instrument in a national band.
