Mouth flute, Li nationality wind instrument. Li called Lilie. Popular in the Li nationality area of Hainan Province.
The shape of the mouth flute is similar to the suona pole. The tube body is made of several short bamboo tubes with different thicknesses, and it is trumpet-shaped. Open a circular sound hole in each section. The original oral flute has only five holes. By the 1950s, the Xikouxiao, which was popular in Ledong, Changjiang and Dongfang, mostly had six sections and six holes, with a total length of about 22 cm. Popular in Tongshi and Baoting areas, the flute at the East Road has seven sections and seven holes, and the top hole is used as decoration. Cut the upper end of the bamboo tube and carve a rectangular reed with the tongue facing down. The popular folk oral flute now has seven sections and six holes, and the reeds are also changed from bamboo to reed. Eight tones can be played.
There are six, seven, eight, and nine sound holes in the mouth flute because of the different materials. They vary in length and size, ranging from small flutes like pen caps to big flutes like low-pitched suonas. There are single-reed reeds and double-reed suona whistle.
