In the previous Akendobra, due to the limitation of material selection and craftsmanship, the volume, timbre and performance of the instruments were only suitable for herdsmen's self-entertainment solo or playing and singing accompaniment.

After the founding of New China, in order to adapt to the continuous development of national music and better express the boiling new life, since 1955, the musicians of the musical instrument production room of the Xinjiang Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture Cultural and Art Troupe have carried out fruitful performances on Akendobra. They learned from the experience of domestic and foreign piano making, starting from the actual needs of stage performance, and after seven years of research and practice, they finally made a series of dongbra musical instruments - the band dongbra.

It includes five instruments: soprano, treble, alto, tenor and bass. The band Dombra has the same structure, but differs in size and tuning.

The body of the piano is no longer made of a piece of cork, the stem is made of apricot wood or mulberry wood, the back of the resonance box is made of walnut, and seven or nine pieces of wood with wide middle and narrow ends are used. After sticking to form a scoop shape, it can also be glued with apricot wood and mulberry board, and then the surface is pasted with walnut wood flakes.

The panel is made of white pine slats with straight texture, consistent width and color.

The resonance box is thinner and larger than the previous one. The sound hole on the panel is also changed from several small holes to a larger round hole. The traditional silk-string winding frets are changed to plastic frets or copper frets, and the taste is increased. The sound range is expanded, not only the sound position is fixed and accurate, but also the back of the piano bar is smooth, which is convenient for the left hand to move up and down to move the strings. The high-pitched Tombura also changed the silk strings to steel strings, which is also an important aspect to improve the volume and tone.
