In the early 1950s, Xinjiang Uyghur musicians cooperated with Uyghur musical instrument makers from Urumqi Yiti Boke Musical Instrument Factory, and began to reform Sanxian Duolangaijie.
The earliest is to increase the main strings to four and the steel wire resonance strings to 11. The main strings are tuned as: g, d1, a1, and e2, and the resonance strings are tuned as: c, d, e, f, g, a, c1, d1, e1, g1, a1. Afterwards, all the resonance strings were deleted, and only the four main strings remained.
After a period of practical exploration, the reformers looked at the production experience of stringed instruments at home and abroad, retained the original shape of Dolangai Czech with national style, enlarged the sound box, removed the film and replaced it with a wooden panel, installed an inner film, and expanded the output. The sound hole, the increase of the fretboard, the addition of a meniscus seat, and finally reformed into a new type of four-string high-pitched Aijie.
