It is often used in instrumental ensembles such as Xi'an drums, as accompaniment in local operas such as Kunqu Opera, Jin Opera, and Sichuan Opera, and sometimes in national bands.
In the minority areas of southwest China, it is used for festival celebrations, folk instrumental ensembles, Dai opera, Zhuang opera and folk songs and dances of various ethnic groups and sports performances.
It is often used in combination with elephant foot drums (or other drums) and cymbals. The number is not fixed, and the pitch is not limited. At least it is a combination of a large cymbal and a small collocation. Strong beats, Gong Zheng played down beats. If you use more than one at the same time, the high notes can be densely played, and the low notes can be played sparsely.
It is also used in production activities. When hunting in groups, it can help strengthen the courage. When the caravan is in the deep mountains and dense forests, it can frighten wild animals and prevent them from getting lost. Before grazing, each household releases livestock, and when returning from grazing, each family brings back the livestock.
