The double-pipe muffled flute is a double-reed gas-sounding instrument of the Yi nationality. It is popular in Nanhua and Shuangbai of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province and Nanjian Yi Autonomous County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. Every spring ploughing season, the Yi family will play the muffled flute and start a year of work.
When playing the double pipe muffler, the pipe body is placed upright. The mouth contains two insect whistles at the upper end, and it is played with moderate breath. Hold the flute with both hands, press the two sound holes on the side of the two pipes horizontally with the fingers, the ring finger, middle finger, and index finger of the right hand press the three holes on the front, the ring finger, middle finger, and index finger of the left hand press the three holes on the front, and the thumb presses the back hole. You can learn from the playing skills of the single-pipe muffler, but you can't play the acting skills of boring, releasing, fanning, and closing.
Sound range c2-e3 ten degrees. The pronunciation is melodious, the volume is loud, and the timbre is full of pastoral flavor. Often used in solo, mostly for improvisation. You can also participate in instrumental ensembles or accompany folk songs.

Folk artists often describe the meaning of the words they want to express with the muffled flute, and dissolve their emotions in the music they play.
