The appearance of the Naxi pipa is similar to that of the Han nationality pipa, but the volume is larger and the speaker is relatively flat and thin, retaining the ancient shape. It consists of a sound box, neck, headstock, pegs, binding strings and strings, with a total length of 110 cm.
The Naxi Pipa resonance box is half-pear-shaped, and the abdominal cavity of the lute is carved out of a whole piece of hard wood such as mahogany or walnut.
The neck is thin and straight. The headstock is made of mahogany or pear wood, about 16 centimeters long, and the top is carved in a ruyi shape, about 8.6 centimeters wide. The pegs are made of boxwood, and the shaft handle is engraved with straight petal patterns. They are arranged on both sides of the string groove, two on the left and right, and are installed radially, which is very different from the horizontal installation of pegs in today's pipa.
The underside of the mountain pass and the surface of the neck are not phased. There are twelve bamboo frets above the neck and top, of which the ninth to twelfth frets are high-pitched frets, which are only used for playing high notes.
Zhang four silk strings, using the sub-string, middle string, old string and winding string respectively.
