The pendant still maintains the small three-string shape, and the barrel is the same as that of the Sihu.
The structure of the pendant is basically the same as that of the small sanxian. The stem, headstock, pegs and fingerboard still retain the shape of the small sanxian. The resonance box is slightly smaller than that of the sanxian drum. The ponytail bow made of bamboo is played, and the tone is rich.
The qin barrel of the Zhu hu is the same as that of the Sihu qin barrel. It is made of copper plate or hardwood. It is cylindrical. It is shorter and thicker than the Sihu qin barrel. The stem and head are shaped like three strings, but the stem is shorter, the head is smaller, and the fingerboard is wider. Played with a ponytail bow, the timbre is pure and soft, suitable for expressing elegant and lyrical tunes.
The qin barrel is made of hardwood, mahogany or yellow paulownia, with an octagonal shape, the front mouth is covered with snake skin, and the back mouth has a hollow frame. The stem part is similar to the stem of a three-string and is shorter. The total length is about 90 cm, and it doubles as a fingerboard, with two strings, which are placed on the string, and the bow runs inside the string. Played with a ponytail bamboo bow. The vocal range is about two and a half octaves. The sound is high-pitched and soft, and it is used not only for accompaniment, but also for solo and instrumental ensemble.
