There are generally two types of cracks in the guzheng: cracks in the bonding of various parts; cracks in the bottom panel, side panels or wood of the flower board. Fine cracks are common in the wood of the tiled wood, and there are more cracks at the bonding place, followed by cracks at the cut corners of the piano box on the side panels, and cracks on the bottom panel are now the least common.

Types and causes of guzheng cracking

Causes and severity of cracking: Small cracks often appear in the wood of the flower board due to the loss of water due to the dry environment. This kind of cracking is relatively common, which may affect the appearance and not affect the performance. The cracking of the bonding place may be due to the poor bonding before leaving the factory, or the environment is too dry after leaving the factory, or it may be that the tension of the strings is too large, which causes the cracking of the bonding place of the flower plate, etc. Generally, it does not affect the playing, or it can be ignore.

The cracks at the cut corners of the side panel are mostly due to technical problems in the production process of the guzheng, which need to be returned to the factory for repair. The most serious one is the cracking of the bottom plate and the front panel, which directly affects the sound quality of the piano. The bottom panel can be repaired if it is cracked, but it is difficult to say whether it can be restored to normal. The reason may be a problem with the manufacturer's production technology, or it may be caused by the extremely dry environment. Some remote areas in the north are very dry indoors.

That is to say, it is usually seen that fine cracks appear in the wood and the bonding place due to the low humidity of the ambient air and syneresis. After using the piano for a long time, you will find that such cracks are very common and should be taken calmly.
