The production process of Guqin is special and complicated, the production period is long, the panel is thick and protected by paint tires. In ancient times, a good qin was often collected by collectors with a lot of money, and there were also some official qin that were made and collected by the imperial palace. The production process of the zheng is relatively simple, the body is thin, there is no thick lacquer tire to protect it, and the service life is short. In addition, the royal palace nobles generally do not pay attention to it, so there are basically no ancient objects that can be used for actual playing today.
In ancient times, the guqin was in a special position among stringed instruments, or even among all musical instruments. The special status of the guqin is proved in Tianshui Bingshan Lu, a list of Yan Song's family property in the Ming Dynasty. The copied Guqin, including the new Shiqin, are listed on the list one by one, just like ancient books, calligraphy and paintings, while other musical instruments, such as zheng and Pa, are listed in total, equivalent to two silver coins. A few, all of them have been dealt with, which is one of the important reasons why the number of handed down guqin is far more than other instruments such as guzheng.
