Manoeuvre (Baihe)
Music composition: Liu Tianqi
Qin: Liu Xiaocheng, Zheng Zihao
During the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, a hundred schools of thought contending, the vertical and horizontal theory of "Devil Valley" is unique. Its opening "manoeuvre" says: "Those who are open also, say also, Yang also. Those who close, close, silence, Yin. The harmony of Yin and Yang, the end of the meaning." This is a new guqin piece, composed by Liu Tianqi from the Central Conservatory of Music in 2018. The creator uses guqin to explore the broad connotations of "open" and "closed" in music.
The two guqin pieces, however resonant, begin with a strong and vigorous tone, as if two countries were competing for power, as if two people were fighting for supremacy, unstoppable and even. The sound of opening and closing is balanced and harmonious, and even there is me and you in me. Only when the two are combined, can they be complete and orderly. When the interwoven music stops abruptly, it still leaves behind the power of longitude and latitude, which is enough to promote the change of Yin and Yang to transform everything.
