Folk opera Bacha Ethnic group: Han Nationality Region: Shaanxi
Singing and gong hook: Jin Peixing
Bacha, originally named Yunyang Tune and also known as Huagu Opera, was introduced into southern Shaanxi from Hubei during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It usually uses gongs and drums to accompany and the performers sit and sing without makeup. It has a wide popular base in rural areas of southern Shaanxi. This song is an excerpt from the classic play "The Four Rebellious Feelings of the Yu Family", which tells the story of Zhang Xiuying and the Yu family four meeting in the third hour of the trysts, but the Yu family Four fails to show up for some reason, Zhang Xiuying is struggling to wait for the outcome and cannot sleep. The crisp, sharp metallic percussion of the piece comes from an instrument called a hook-gong, made of loud copper with strings drilled into the side. The performer holds a gong with his left hand and a wooden gong with his right hand to hammer and play, and sings warm and straightforward lyrics in a rustic voice, vividly and vividly presenting Zhang Xiuying's inner world of love and hate and despair. The red tent is filled with the fragrance of osmanthus flowers. The cold moonlight reflected the embroidery room alone. A woman's longing for spring in southern Shaanxi is like a candle fire on a cold night, which never goes out until dawn.
