Bian Gexun's performance of "Autumn Thoughts on the Dressing Table" comes from the album "Music Dictionary: Xun - Bian Ge".
The ancient tune is based on the story of Zhaojun's departure from the fortress. It was the fourth piece of the pipa literary suite "Shangshangqu" at first, and was later adapted into versions such as xiao solo, xun, and guzheng. "Song on the Frontier" was first recorded in the "Thirteen Sets of New Pipa Scores of the North-South School" compiled by Li Fangyuan, a master of pipa art from Zhejiang Pinghu School in the Qing Dynasty. The material is from the "Pipa Score" compiled by Hua Qiuping and others from Wuxi School, Jiangsu Province. In the "Wulin Yi Yun" in "Pipa Score", there are forty-nine pieces of the western plate passed down by Chen Mufu. Based on this score and the traditional method of folk concertos, Li Fangyuan put five of them in the same mood, each of which is a sixty-eight-piece ditty "Sim Chun in the Palace Court", "The Resentment of Zhaojun", "The Concubine Xiang's Tears", "The Dressing Table" Qiu Si" and "Si Han" were joined together, named "Song on the Frontier", and marked the author as Wang Zhaojun. Putting the name of the ancient person as the author plays a role in the title, which is equivalent to explaining that "Song on the Frontier" tells the story of Wang Zhaojun. The music uses Zhaojun to go out of the fortress to miss his homeland, expressing a sad and sad feeling.
