Su Wu Shepherd is a household story in China. During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty sent ministers such as Su Wu as envoys to the Western Regions to reconcile with the Xiongnu, Shanyu. Due to the rebellion of the Han Dynasty surrendering general, King Biehou Wang, Shanyu was furious, detained Su Wu and others, and persuaded them to surrender. Su Wuning was unyielding and determined not to surrender. He was forced to become a slave of the Xiongnu to herd sheep on the vast grasslands, and only returned to the Han Dynasty 19 years later. People compiled his story into a song and sang it from generation to generation. The name of the song was "Su Wu Shepherd". This Xiao solo piece is based on the song of the same name.
