The Changsuona, formerly known as Taiping Xiao, is a double-reed air-singing instrument that has spread from ancient times on the Korean Peninsula. It is not only popular in the court and folk, but also a major wind instrument in the army. In the 1960s, Chang Suona, which has a long history, was re-improved in Yanbian area and became an important member of contemporary Korean bands.
This piece was composed by composer Cui Mingchuan for the newly improved Chang Suona solo. Chang Suona uses long and bright tones to simulate the graceful singing of birds, and uses light differential tones to depict the beautiful scenery of valleys, thus expressing the composer's admiration for the natural scenery and his heartfelt love for his native land.
