Yun Liang

Folk music Nationality: Mongolian Region: Horqin, Inner Mongolia

Matouqin: Chaoke

This folk music is based on the true story of Yunliang, a young girl born in the Mongolian grasslands in the late Guangxu years of the Qing Dynasty. When Yunliang, 17 years old, went to the capital with his parents to worship Buddha, he was unfortunately forced to be a concubine by the Manchu nobles. Legend has it that the song was composed by Yun Liang himself in his house in the capital. With a simple tone, the Matouqin slowly played this melancholy song, which described the pure and beautiful image of Yun Liang in detail, and her depressed mood that could not be eased even if she sat on eight sedan chairs around the capital. Spring comes and goes, and everything flourishes again. The girl Yunliang's painful thoughts of her parents can only be placed on the birds circling and singing, flying over the courtyard wall to his hometown thousands of miles away.
