The cucurbit flute, also known as the cucurbit flute, is mainly popular in the Dehong and Lincang areas of Yunnan. It is said that it evolved from the Sheng from the Central Plains into the southwest. Its shape is to insert three bamboo tubes at the bottom of a natural complete gourd. Each part of the gourd is inlaid with a reed. When played, the gourd is the air chamber, and the mouth of the gourd is the mouthpiece.

When it comes to cucurbit silk, many people may think of this famous song composed by Shi Guangnan and lyrics by Ni Weide, and it even forms part of the impression of the Dai people and even Yunnan. The melody sounded, as if to the south of the colorful clouds, the mountains and rivers moisten the eyes, the phoenix tails, bamboo and bamboo shadows sway, the clear stream runs through the Shipo Valley, and the peacocks walk among them. The graceful Dai girls wear silver ornaments and long skirts. The sound is like a silver bell, and there are also bamboo towers scattered among the bamboo forests. In the clear night, the silver moon rises little by little on the top of the mountain and the tip of the phoenix-tailed bamboo in the very quiet night. The quiet and incessant sound of cucurbit silk passed through the forest, flowing in the mountains, the earth, and the villages.
