"Four Chapters in Northern Shaanxi" is a suite of multi-movement flute concerto based on the folk music style of Northwest China. Thinking, which poured into the composer Cheng Dazhao's love for Chinese folk music. The whole piece is divided into four movements, "Xintianyou", "Social Opera", "The Past" and "Booming Fire".
"Xintianyou" is a folk song with upper and lower sentence structure in northern Shaanxi, which is long and profound. In this movement, the flute flutes up and down in the background of the band's long and harmonious voices, drawing a pair of high-altitude emotions for people.
"Social Opera", this is a joyous piece of music like a game. In a humorous and dialogue-like style, it is planned to reproduce the folk drama "Two People's Terrace" in northern Shaanxi to express the emotions of joy.
"The Past", in the melody of the flute, confided to the people the long past of the changes of the past and the present
"Prosperous Fire", "Prosperous Fire" is a local language in northern Shaanxi, which means festivity. In this movement, the rhythm of the waist drum is combined with the simple melody of the flute. The piece continues to develop variations on a single theme, up to a broad board. At the end, the theme of the first movement "Xintianyou" reappears, which seems to bring people into the rolling mountains again.
