The Liang Zhu violin concerto was a work by He Zhanhao and Chen Gang when they were studying at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. It was composed in the winter of 1958. It was premiered in Shanghai in May of the following year and was well received. The premiere was performed by Yu Lina as the violin soloist. The subject matter is a well-known folk tale, using the tunes of Yue Opera as the material, comprehensively using symphony and Chinese folk opera music expression techniques, carefully conceived and laid out according to the development of the plot, using a sonata-style structure, single movement, with subtitles. The main contents are "Marriage at Caoqiao", "British and Taiwan's resistance to marriage", and "Butterfly in front of the grave". The song-like structure is composed of birds singing and flowers, worshiping at grass bridge, classmates for three years, sending each other for eighteen years, farewell to long pavilion, Yingtai resisting marriage, complaining of crying spirits, and turning into butterflies in front of the grave.
